      Educational Institute Honors Deale as Outstanding Hospitality Educator

      Orlando, Florida June 2013— Cynthia Deale, associate professor in the hospitality management program at East Carolina University, is the 2013 recipient of the Lamp of Knowledge Award for Outstanding Educator (U.S.), presented by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI). Deale received the award during the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Summer Summit in Houston during the Stars of the Industry Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 19.

      Deale is an affiliate faculty member of East Carolina University’s Center for Sustainable Tourism, as well as in the School of Hospitality Leadership. Her research interests include teaching and learning in hospitality and tourism, hospitality tourism management practices, service, and sustainable hospitality. Deale is a past president of CHRIE and a long-time supporter of EI’s Certified Hospitality Educator program.

      She is one of the first professors to incorporate Guest Service Gold and the Certified Guest Service Professional into her introduction to hospitality curriculum. In addition, she was a significant contributor to the development of the STAR Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics that was introduced to college and university hospitality programs this year.
