Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, June 11, 2008 - Michael Farrell, managing partner, Southern Africa Hospitality Training Co., is the 2008 recipient of the Lamp of Knowledge Award for Outstanding International Educator, presented by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. Farrell received the award during the AH&LA Summer Summit in Oklahoma City, at the AH&LA Stars of the Industry Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 11.
Farrell is a master licensee of the Educational Institute, serving as the Hospitality Education Program (HEP) licensee for nearly 10 years in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. He was recently granted the HEP license for Ethiopia and Sudan.
As a hospitality educator in these countries, Farrell has proven himself to be "completely and unselfishly devoted to the welfare and education of his students," said David Lechter, EI's vice president, international sales. He noted that Farrell has worked on behalf of his students under extremely adverse conditions, including keeping the school open in a country where the current inflation rate is more than 160,000 percent yearly. Farrell's students have found hospitality employment all over the world, because of the basic educational fundamentals he taught them.
"Mike Farrell is very deserving on the Lamp of Knowledge Award because he has certainly kept the lamp lit on behalf of the Educational Institute, his students, and himself," Lechter stated.
