Educational Institute Honors Rubiano as Outstanding Student

Orlando, Florida June 2013—Pablo Rubiano, assistant food and beverage manager at the Hilton Bogota, Colombia, is the 2013 recipient of the Lamp of Knowledge Award for Outstanding Distance Learning Student, presented by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI). Rubiano received the award during the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Summer Summit in Houston during the Stars of the Industry Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 19.

Rubiano was one of the first people to complete EI’s Dual Diploma program, earning both the Hospitality Management and Food and Beverage Management Diplomas. He stated that completing these diplomas through Distance Learning has helped him to advance both professionally and personally. Using the knowledge gained through his EI coursework, Rubiano developed tools and processes that have helped the food and beverage department at the Hilton Bogota to grow and meet profit goals. He developed and implemented an automated menu engineering tool that enables managers to determine how a menu is performing and what areas need improvement. His potential has been recognized by his employer, who selected him to be part of Hilton’s nine-month leadership program.

Of EI’s Distance Learning program, Rubiano stated, “Having access to a premium education at such an affordable cost from anywhere around the world is simply amazing.”
