Skills, Tasks, and Results Training (START) program, developed by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI), is a one-year or 180 classroom hour curriculum that gives students re-entering the workforce the real-world knowledge and skills needed for a long-term career in the lodging industry.
The START program is designed specifically for workforce development to serve targeted clients such as, at-risk youth, welfare-to-work, dislocated workers, and other targeted groups. The curriculum is the only hospitality training curriculum for the workforce market that is endorsed by the American Hotel & Lodging Association, and supported by its network of over 10,000 hotel owners and potential employers. The START program is the perfect solution for the goal of Workforce Development Boards - to ensure that workforce development and job training programs meet the needs of employers. Workforce Boards can show a measurable ROI to support government funding with a program that feeds directly into an industry that is actively seeking workers for front-line positions.
Students in the START program get on track to begin a career in lodging or continue their education with additional lodging educational programs. START provides training for hospitality positions in the rooms and food and beverage divisions of a lodging operation, including front desk reservations, housekeeping, bell services, restaurant service, banquet setup, and more. Guest service professionalism and career exploration are other important components of this program.
