      Pulaski Technical College Offers State-of-the-Art Culinary and Hospitality Education

      Pulaski Technical College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute (CAHMI), located just outside Little Rock, Arkansas, provides students with outstanding educational opportunities in hospitality, culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, wine studies and mixology. The two-year school features a new 60,000 square-foot facility with cutting-edge equipment, technology, and industry advancements to give students hands-on experiences such as might be found at larger, four-year hospitality programs.

      New Edition of Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry to be Available in Print and Digital Versions

      The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) will begin taking pre-orders for the Eleventh Revised Edition of the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI) on April 18.  The popular financial manual will be available for the first time in a digital format (coming in late April) as well as in print (available late May).  The publication is a joint effort of the Hotel Association of New York City and the  Financial Management Committee of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), with funding from Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals (HFTP).

      New GAP in Spain Offers “Boutique” Hospitality Education

      HEC Marbella, the Educational Institute’s new Global Academic Partner (GAP) in Spain, calls itself a “boutique of excellence” and offers students an educational approach based on flexibility, personalized service, and interaction.  Like a boutique hotel, the school’s atmosphere is “chic, small, and intimate,” according to founder Stéphane Demaeght de Montalay, CHE.

      Hotel Industry Groups Pursue New Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics

      What could keep 55 La Quinta general managers, revenue managers, and corporate staff members indoors for eight hours on a beautiful day in Kona, Hawaii?  The group was among the first in the hospitality industry to pursue the Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics, offered jointly by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) and STR (Smith Travel Research).  The La Quinta managers had prepared with online training materials that included case scenarios, sample reports, industry “tricks of the trade”, analysis examples, quizzes, discussion questions, and application exercises.

      Gold Training Goes Global

      Bahamian High School Students Go for the Gold

      April 2014

      Ten students from the hospitality department of Jack Hayward High School in the Bahamas received the designation of Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP®) in a March 17 ceremony at their school, after completing the Educational Institute’s Guest Service Gold® training program in December. This is the first and only school in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas to have its students complete the EI guest service training program and certification.

      Best Western Trainers Model Commitment to Certification

Much of what they do includes presenting the Educational Institute's professional certifications, ranging from the Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP®) to the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA®) and several manager and department head designations.       Choose Chicago Certifies Visitor Staff as Guest Service Professionals

      When Chicago's mayor set new tourism goals for the Windy City last fall, Choose Chicago, the city's convention and visitor bureau, decided the time was right to enhance the profile of the staff of its two visitor information centers.  Part of the makeover involved new uniforms and new titles, while another key piece centered on training and certifying staff members as Certified Guest Service Professionals (CGSP®) using the Educational Institute's Guest Service Gold® training program.

      Hong Kong General Managers Earn Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA®)

      City University of Hong Kong, one of the Educational Institute's Global Academic Partner (GAP) schools, with the support of the Hong Kong Hotels Association, recently offered preparation for the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA®) designation to a group of hotel general managers, several of whom passed the CHA® examination and earned the designation, which is the most prestigious professional credential for hotel general managers and executives.

      EI Salutes Maine as PSA Sales Leader in 2013

      The Maine Innkeepers Association, under the leadership of Greg Dugal, has been recognized by the Educational Institute for achieving the highest percentage increase in their year-over-year sales of EI products among all American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Partner State Associations (PSA) in 2013. PSAs are state-level hospitality associations that are affiliated with AH&LA and promote the sales of EI products to their members.

      Online Course Shows Employees Their Role in Reputation Management of Their Property

      New Online Program Tackles Serious Topic of Child Trafficking at Hotels

      The Educational Institute and ECPAT-USA have developed a new online training program for hotel employees, "The Role of Hospitality in Preventing and Reacting to Child Trafficking." The 30-minute course, which was made possible through funding by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) provides hotel staff and managers with the information they need to identify and respond to crimes of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC).

      Albanian Tourism Project Promotes Value of EI Courses and Certifications

      Cintas Managers Pursue CMHS to Develop Stronger Bond with Hospitality Industry

      As hospitality supplier Cintas has grown from a provider of uniforms to a source for a wide range of hospitality solutions including apparel, sanitation, and safety compliance, the company realized the need to do something that would show their hospitality customers how committed they are to serving them.  To do that, Cintas chose to put members of their national field sales team through the Certified Master Hospitality Supplier (CMHS) program offered by the Educational Institute.

      Sheriff Officer Earns Hospitality Security Certification

      Sergeant Marcus Camacho of the Orange County (Florida) Sheriff's Office is the first law enforcement official to earn the Certified Lodging Security Director (CLSD®) designation from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI). While the certification was originally created for security personnel working in hotels, Camacho's work with Orlando-area hotels and attractions through tourism-oriented policing services (TOPS) made pursuing the hospitality certification a logical extension of his professional development.

      Hospitality Runs in the Family of New CHA

      November 2013

      As a 5-year-old boy, Len Leonardi Jr., CHA, remembers getting to stay up late and go to work with his father, a night auditor at a hotel in New Jersey.

      "I loved the hotel business even then," said Leonardi, 42, who is now the general manager of the Legacy Vacation Club in Indian Shores, Florida.  Leonardi, who earned his CHA® this fall, has modeled his own hospitality leadership style on that of his father, who was a night auditor, front office manager, and general manager at several New  Jersey properties, including the Governor Morris Inn, a Sheraton in Piscataway, and a Choice hotel in Rutgers.
